Bank Lane gets a new look!

Bank Lane gets a new look!

June 24, 2019

Earlier this month, Main Street Hanover transformed Bank Lane for Sip & Stroll! In continuing to seek ways to implement the Downtown Hanover Streetscape Design and Beautification Plan, Main Street Hanover had the opportunity to team up with consulting firm Team Better Block and project underwriter AARP of Pennsylvania to present a pop-up project to transform Bank Lane into an art-filled pedestrian space.

Based on the feedback the public gave during the streetscape plan, Team Better Block generated a number of recommendations for installation in the alley that would further the goals of the community. Those recommendations include crosswalks, parklets, stencil art, seating, wayfinding, and games.

On June 6 and 7, over 20 volunteers helped paint, build, and design each element of the project. This alley activation was an opportunity to demonstrate some changes during a one day event that could be implemented long-term.

On Saturday, June 8, Main Street Hanover held their Sip & Stroll event in downtown Hanover. 450 ticket holders strolled around downtown, visiting the participating small businesses to enjoy samples of beer, wine, cider, and food. Businesses welcomed strollers with promotions, special events, and special discounts specific for the event. New activities were set up in Bank Lane to enjoy! Utz had a booth set up with fun lawn games, two vendors for the Sip & Stroll set up in the alley, seating was available, event sponsor HD Entertainment’s DJ provided music, and food trucks were enjoyed.

Sip & Stroll is Main Street Hanover’s largest fundraiser. Proceeds from the event fund the program’s initiatives and general operations.
