Chalk It Up and Sip & Stroll attract hundreds to downtown Hanover!

Monday, June 20, 2015 – On June 11, Main Street Hanover held the 6th Annual Chalk It Up chalk art event in downtown Hanover, along with the 2nd Sip & Stroll event. Both events were a huge success, reaching the highest numbers seen yet by either event; with Chalk It Up bringing out over 120 chalk artists and Sip & Stroll attracting over 500 participants. Main Street Hanover’s Saturday’s on Main Street committee is thrilled with these results and could not be more excited about continuing to grow these events in the future.

Chalk It Up is a free chalk art event that invites artists of all ages and skill levels to come and create unique works of art on the sidewalks of Downtown Hanover. Families, adults, and school-age artists were up and out in the square early on Saturday to work from 9am-2pm to finish their masterpieces. Created as a way to bring people in the downtown, highlighting its walkability, this event has grown to include artists looking to display their work to a larger audience. This year, artists had the opportunity to win cash prizes for Judge’s Choice and People’s Choice. The group category had many contenders this year and competition was tough.

Sip & Stroll is a walking tour event created last year to invite adults to enjoy the nightlife in downtown Hanover. This event pairs local downtown businesses with wine, beer and food vendors from our area to offer samples of their products to a diverse group spending time in downtown. With 500 tickets sold this year, twice as many as last year, this sold-out event welcomed so many downtown first-timers to experience the many unique downtown businesses in their own backyard. The event encouraged ticket holders to patronize shops they might not have visited before, offering downtown businesses, and their paired vendors, a marketing opportunity like no other.

Following this year’s Sip & Stroll event, attendees and locals alike took part in a Deep Six concert set up right in the parking lot in the Northeast quadrant of the square. The band brought the crowds to their feet to be entertained into the night.

Justine Trucksess, Manager of Main Street Hanover, said “This event could not be possible without the support of our sponsors, Member’s 1st, Panebaker Funeral Home, and Stambaugh Ness. Without them and the service of our MSH Saturday’s on Main Street committee and event volunteers, none of it would be possible! We owe the event’s success to the downtown businesses and the vendors who come into to participate. We look forward to next year’s event and bringing even more excitement into Downtown.” All proceeds from ticket sales for Sip & Stroll will help fund future events and initiatives of Main Street Hanover.
