2020 Christmas Announcement – Santa’s Cabin is back!

Oct 9, 2020

The Hanover Christmas Committee, a Main Street Hanover effort, is happy to announce the following plans for the 2020 Christmas Season.

We are excited to be able to present the full 2020 dates of Santa’s Cabin, with in-person visits with Santa on the square for our 79th consecutive year.  Image360 has graciously provided a sheet of plexi-glass that we will be installing to create a barrier between the cabin visitors and Santa. We are finalizing the layout of how this will look and can’t wait to share with you when it’s finished.

As you’ll see in the coming days, we have prepared a visitor guidelines document that outlines our plans to maintain the guidelines in place in Pennsylvania.  For example, masks must be worn in following with the State’s universal masking mandate by all who visit the Cabin and when waiting in line and unable to maintain 6ft of social distance. We will have hand sanitizer stations, thanks to the Borough of Hanover’s Public Works Dept., and a sanitation plan for the Cabin to provide a clean cabin for the visitors.

We will have painted stencils to mark a line that can accommodate visitor groups that will be spread 6ft. These marks will prompt visitors to stand in the designated spaces until they reach the cabin. When visitors arrive they’ll be kept at a distance until their turn to enter. We will also have a volunteer temperature log to manage our volunteer’s safely. Candy canes and chips provided to each visiting child will be pre-packed into bags that will be handed to each child after their visit at the cabin by a volunteer. Santa’s letters and any in person letters will be collected, but no items will be passed between visitors and Santa.

These are just a few of the ways we will be managing the health and safety of our volunteers, Santa, and the community this year at Santa’s Cabin.  More detailed guidelines, how-to visit PSA videos, and additional tips for your visit will be available on our website in the coming weeks.

The following are the dates that the cabin will be open:

Fri. Nov. 27:  10 a.m.-12 p.m., 1:30-6 p.m.

Sat. Nov. 28: 10 a.m.-12 p.m., 1:30-6 p.m. (Small Business Saturday)

We understand that any changes to the infection rates in Hanover can impact our ability to keep the cabin open, so we are prompting the community to follow our website and social media channels to ensure the cabin’s hours before visiting. We have created a Cabin disclaimer as well, at the bottom of this announcement, ensuring that the community is aware that this plan, as announced today, is on a day-by-day basis.

Unfortunately, we are also announcing today that the Holiday Parade, traditionally held on Black Friday, and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony held on Small Business Saturday will be cancelled. We are looking forward to sharing a virtual experience with you in partnership with Community Media.

Our Christmas Committee has been working overtime to plan for a variety of virtual events and online activities that we will announce in the coming days.  Our coloring page by local artist Bobbi Becker is in the works and will still be available to color this year. A bike decorating and holiday home decorating contest will be announced which we think you will love! A few more fun and festive surprise activities are almost ready to share, so please, if you don’t already, follow our social media channels to ensure you see all the great things we hope you’ll participate in this year.

Main Street Hanover’s downtown businesses are excited to welcome you for your holiday shopping needs as well! Dec. 12 we will be hosting a Holiday Stroll and will launch the 2020 Christmas Tree Wars after Thanksgiving. So please remember to shop small this holiday season and support local when visiting Santa’s Cabin this year.

We want to give a big thank you to everyone for their help in getting this ready! We could not accomplish all that we are doing this year without the dedicated committee of volunteers and Main Street Hanover staff.

If you have any questions or comments regarding today’s announcement please reach out to Main Street Hanover’s Executive Director, Justine Trucksess – or (717) 637-6130 x101.

Please visit our website for our COVID Update tab for more information. We will update the information as needed. (tab under construction but almost ready to launch)

Please view all guidelines before your visit, as this will be a very fluid situation.
