Main Street Hanover Announces Return of Holiday Parking Meter Sweaters

Hanover, PA – This holiday season, Main Street Hanover is once again bringing festive cheer to downtown with the beloved tradition of parking meter sweaters. These handmade, colorful coverings add a whimsical and welcoming touch to the streets, helping to beautify downtown and spread holiday spirit for residents and visitors alike.

Main Street Hanover is calling on the community to lend their time, creativity, and resources to help make this year’s display a success. Knitters and makers of all skill levels are invited to contribute handmade parking meter sweaters.

Each parking meter sweater should measure approximately 38 inches in length by 10 inches wide, with bright red, forest green, and white colors. At the close of the season, all meter sweaters will be gently washed and stored for reuse in future years. Over time, weather conditions may require replacements, making community support essential to sustaining this cherished holiday tradition.

“Fiber arts bring such warmth, creativity, and personality to downtown Hanover during the holiday season,” said Moriah Tyler, Executive Director of Main Street Hanover. “We are thrilled to partner with local artists and makers to showcase their talents in such a fun and festive way.”

Finished parking meter sweaters can be dropped off at the Main Street Hanover office at 40 York Street by appointment. To schedule an appointment, please email MainStreetHanover@gmail.com or call 717.637.6130 Ext. 101. The deadline for sweater drop-off is November 17 to allow time for decorating downtown.

Main Street Hanover welcomes all interested participants to get involved in creating meter sweaters for the 2025 holiday season. Together, we can ensure downtown Hanover continues to be a vibrant and inviting destination throughout the holidays.
