Art Alley Pretzel Parade Launches in downtown Hanover
On Friday evening, Art Alley launched the first of hopefully many public art projects in downtown Hanover. The project is a series of sculptures, called the Pretzel Parade. Art Alley asked local artists to create works of art using a large metal pretzel base as the canvas. Hanover is often considered the snack town capital of the world. Our history is rooted in German heritage and rich in snack food manufacturing, that has helped sustain our community. Pretzels were the perfect object to utilize as the base for these works of art. Because of a partnership between the Hanover High School metal shop and Riley Welding these pretzels came to life.
Art Alley, the Main Street Hanover downtown public art initiative, is looking to build an environment where artists, students, amateurs, and professionals, feel welcome and encouraged to be engaged with the downtown improvement efforts. Through public art projects, we hope to build the capacity for artists to engage in murals, sculptures and out of the box art projects.
We hope you will visit them downtown! Below are links to the Art Alley website, that contains details about each pretzel, the artists’ statement and artist bio, along with an interactive map.
