Main Street Hanover Celebrates Grand Opening of New Public Administration Facility and Debut of Public Art Mural

Apr 22, 2025 | News

Hanover, PA – Main Street Hanover is proud to join the Borough of Hanover in celebrating the grand opening of the new Public Administration Facility located at 33 Frederick Street in downtown Hanover. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 5:00 PM, followed by guided tours of the renovated space. That evening, the Hanover Borough Council will convene for its first official meeting in the new Council Chambers at 7:00 PM.

The facility is the first phase of a transformative two-part redevelopment project supported by a $5.5 million RACP grant and an additional $5.5 million in capital building reserves. This strategic investment reflects the Borough’s dedication to modern, accessible public service while anchoring vital municipal operations within the heart of downtown.

Formerly the site of TrueNorth Wellness Services, the building has been extensively renovated to include updated administrative offices, a commercial-grade community kitchen, and community meeting and recreational spaces. The ADA-compliant Council Chambers is now equipped with advanced audio-visual capabilities to encourage increased civic engagement.

In true community spirit, the project was made possible by several generous partners:

  • UTZ Brands, Inc. sponsored the Administrative Area, providing a welcoming and secure entry space.

  • CommunityAid funded the new Community Kitchen, supporting future programming and events.

  • Brightspeed donated two digital kiosks for public information sharing.

A special highlight of the project is a public art mural designed by Moriah Tyler, Executive Director of Main Street Hanover. Installed in the building’s main lobby, the mural is a vibrant collage of Hanover’s history, culture, and community landmarks. Tyler collaborated with Borough leadership to ensure the piece captures the spirit and identity of Hanover.

“Bringing this mural to life has been an incredible experience,” said Tyler. “It’s an honor to create a piece that celebrates Hanover’s history and energy, and I hope it will serve as a source of pride and inspiration for residents and visitors alike.”

The mural, digitally hand-drawn and printed on 3M vinyl, is not only a striking visual centerpiece—it also symbolizes the Borough’s commitment to community collaboration and placemaking through the arts.

Special guests attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony include:
York County President Commissioner Julie Wheeler, Commissioner Doug Hoke, PA State Representative Kate Klunk, representatives from PA State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill’s office, Hanover Borough Council, Mayor SueAnn Whitman, Borough Manager Margie Lewis, and the Borough’s leadership team.

Main Street Hanover applauds this milestone and the continued investment in keeping downtown a vibrant and thriving place to live, work, and engage. The new Public Administration Facility stands as a testament to what public-private partnerships, strong leadership, and community pride can achieve.
