Small Business Support Group Brings Collaboration and Community to Downtown Hanover
Hanover, PA – Downtown Hanover entrepreneurs now have a new place to connect, collaborate, and support one another thanks to the Small Business Support Group, co-led by Malynn Heinbauch of Magnolia Massage and Beck Lawrence of Serpents Key.
The group, which meets on the last Friday of each month at 28 Carlisle Street (Serpents Key), was born out of Malynn’s early struggles as a new business owner. “When I started Magnolia Massage, I was overwhelmed and searching for a place to ask questions, vent, or just get another set of eyes on my ideas,” said Heinbauch. “I wanted something collaborative, not competitive.”
For Beck Lawrence, the inspiration came during the post-holiday slowdown when many businesses were struggling. “There was a lot of talk about starting something like this, but no real action. We wanted to create a network of people who are committed—not just to their business as a job, but to the lifestyle of entrepreneurship.”
Since launching in March, the group has quickly grown into a welcoming, informal space where local entrepreneurs can share their wins and challenges, gain advice, and foster genuine connections. Meetings often include snacks from local businesses and plenty of candid conversation. “It’s a place where you can take off the mask, admit it’s hard, and know your neighbors have your back,” said Lawrence.
Success stories have already emerged. The group helped one business owner navigate inventory, connect with Main Street Hanover, and prepare for her grand opening. Heinbauch herself credits the group with giving her the push she needed to strengthen her social media presence—leading to three viral videos.
“At Main Street Hanover, we are thrilled to see our small business owners stepping up to provide resources like the Small Business Support Group,” said Moriah Tyler, Executive Director of Main Street Hanover. “We firmly believe that no one person can do everything on their own—collaboration is at the heart of a thriving downtown. Watching this group begin, grow, and flourish is incredible, and it truly embodies the spirit of working together to make Hanover stronger.”
The mission of the Small Business Support Group is simple: collaboration over competition. “When we all do well, Hanover wins,” said Heinbauch. “We want people to feel less alone, to build friendships, and to have a safety net. This is about courage and community.”
Meetings are free and open to any small business owner or aspiring entrepreneur—new, established, or somewhere in between. No RSVP is required. Attendees are encouraged to simply show up, be themselves, and join the conversation.
Looking ahead, Heinbauch and Lawrence hope to bring in guest speakers on topics like burnout prevention, technology, and business development. They envision the group evolving into a downtown collective and resource hub where every small business owner knows they have a place to turn.
The Small Business Support Group meets the final Friday of each month from 6–7 p.m. at Serpents Key, 28 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA.
